Conference USA teams will play their originally scheduled eight conference games this football season, the league announced on Friday. It said each team’s non-conference games are at the discretion of each school. The C-USA Championship remains scheduled for Dec. 5 although that date may change if the conference needs to reschedule regular season games.

The league’s decision represents a shift from Power Five conferences, which have pared down or eliminated their schools’ non-conference schedules in recent weeks. Rice’s game against LSU was canceled last week.
The SEC joined the Big Ten and Pac-12 after it released its altered league schedule this week. Rice director of athletics Joe Karlgaard has said replacing the LSU game is not a priority for him.
Rice will open the season at the University of Houston on Sept. 3. Its non-conference schedule also includes Army (Sept. 12) and Lamar (Sept. 26). The Owls conference schedule begins on Oct. 3 against Marshall.
